What to expect

Expect to relax, be yourself and have fun!  This will not be your typical department store photo shoot.  Lifestyle photography is all about showing the life you live and telling your story.  Posing will be kept to a minimum and only used to enhance the look of the portrait or to capture a particular shot you may request. Older teens may want a more posed look but, I try to keep it natural and fresh. I will ask families to snuggle, love on each other and interact.  Just  be yourselves.

Before the session

We will chat on the phone and I will ask basic questions about each family member.  You will let me know what you are looking for in your portraits and about any special requests.

Scheduling

I am completely flexible and will do my best to accommodate your schedule.  Outdoor/fullsun sessions are usually best when done 1 hour before sunset.  Cloudy or overcast days are wonderful for pictures and can generally be done at any time.  I am also mindful when including small children that naptime and feedings should be worked around. Please plan on 1-2 hours depending on the session type.  If more time is needed, I am prepared to spend whatever it takes to capture the best possible images.

Location

This is the fun part!  You may chose to have your session at your home or alternate public location such as a local park, urban area, or anywhere that has special meaning.  I can offer location ideas if needed.

Clothing

Clothing choices for families should be comfortable, simple and location appropriate.  Solid colors in the same tones (not necessarily same color) are preferred for classic photos that will last through time and not take the focus away from the subject. Adding texture is always a good choice. Please be wary of stripes, plaids, words or logos.

For those that love color, fun and funky, bright accessories such as hats, scarves and tights can produce great single subject photos or children’s photos.  Urban settings are also great for photos with style and a little flare! I am flexible and will work with you on clothing choices if needed. Remember, your photos are about the real you.

After the session

Once your session is complete, each photograph will be hand edited and lovingly processed.  A link to an on-line password protected gallery will be given to you within 1-2 weeks.  Your gallery will contain 20-40 individual images in both color and black and white.  You may share the password with friends and family.  Your password will be active for 10 days.  When you are ready to order, give me a call and I will have your portraits printed by a professional lab.  Turn around time is usually 1 week.  I do ask that your order be placed within 15 days. I will call and set up a time to deliver your prints once I receive and review them. Payment will be made at this time.
